Global Hydrogen Summit 2026 Kicks Off in Berlin, Multinational Firms Unite for Zero-Carbon Future
2026-01-19
[Berlin, March 15, 2026]‌ The Global Hydrogen Summit 2026, co-hosted by the Hydrogen Council and Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs, officially opened on the 15th at Berlin Messe. As the world's largest hydrogen industry event, the summit attracted over 800 companies, 2,000 government officials, and industry leaders from 40+ countries, covering 50,000 square meters—a record-breaking scale.

Global Collaboration Strengthens with Hydrogen Corridor Initiative‌
German Economy Minister Robert Habeck and EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson unveiled the Europe-Middle East Hydrogen Corridor Declaration, announcing a €12 billion investment in transnational hydrogen pipelines connecting Germany, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. The initiative aims to accelerate global hydrogen trade through technology sharing and standards alignment, targeting over 120 million tons of CO₂ reduction by 2030.

Innovative Technologies Drive Zero-Carbon Solutions‌

Hydrogen Production Breakthrough‌: Siemens Energy's first megawatt-scale PEM electrolyzer system reduces green hydrogen costs to below $4/kg, cutting expenses by 30% compared to traditional methods.
Storage & Transport Revolution‌: Norway's Hexagon Purus launched a new composite hydrogen tank, reducing weight by 40% while increasing pressure capacity to 700bar. The tank has received EU CE and US DOT certifications and secured orders from Airbus and Hyundai Motor.
Application Expansion‌: Japan's Kawasaki Heavy Industries showcased the liquid hydrogen carrier "Suiso Frontier" model, revealing its planned trans-Pacific voyage in 2026, marking a milestone in commercializing liquid hydrogen.
Chinese Companies Lead with Global Expansion‌
China's State Energy Investment Group signed a strategic agreement with Germany's Uniper to invest €2 billion in building Europe's largest green hydrogen production base. The facility will use China's independently developed alkaline electrolysis technology, targeting annual output of 500,000 tons of green hydrogen—15% of Germany's industrial demand.

Industry Leaders Look Ahead‌
Co-Chair of the Hydrogen Council Benoît Potier stated: "Hydrogen is the only solution to simultaneously meet industrial decarbonization and energy security needs. Global collaboration and innovation will determine the pace of a zero-carbon future." EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson emphasized: "The EU will invest €5 billion annually through the 'Hydrogen Bank' to support global hydrogen projects, ensuring equitable participation in energy transition for developing countries."

About Global Hydrogen Summit 2026‌
Themed "Hydrogen: The Zero-Carbon Link Connecting the World," the summit covers the entire hydrogen value chain, focusing on policy dialogue, technology showcase, and business cooperation. The Global Hydrogen Trade Index Report will be released during the event, providing data support for international investment.
